Our graduates talk about the opportunities the MSc in Human Anatomy programme has opened up for them.
Arthur Lau, Class of 2015
“Currently, I am able to apply my knowledge at a start-up called Touch Surgery, where we build surgical and anatomical simulations to train and empower surgeons around the world. My dissertation entailed the designing and development, while collaborating with Touch Surgery, an app-based learning tool which teaches the embryonic development of the heart supervised by Professor Gordon Findlater.”

“Since completely the MSc I have completed a year as an Anatomy Demonstrator in the University of Birmingham teaching anatomy to students from Medicine and Physiotherapy to Pharmacists and Surgeons. I am now a Teaching Associate at the University of Bristol teaching on similar courses as before. In the future in this role I can hopefully expand into veterinary anatomy also as the school I work in also houses the animal dissection room so that I can teach comparative anatomy.”

“Following on from this course, I will be applying for medical schools as a mature student. I believe this MSc course has equipped me well for the academic strains associated with medical school and has helped me develop good team working and communication skills. But in the meantime, a MSc in Human Anatomy with a significant teaching component has also opened a possible avenue for me to proceed into a teaching profession within medical education should I decide to take this path instead.”

“Currently I am a PhD researcher at the University, investigating repair and homeostasis mechanisms in mechanosensory neurons responsible for hearing. The project enables me to examine the genetic, molecular and cellular constituents that regulate the hearing apparatus in Drosophila melanogaster.”

“Within a few months of graduating I secured my first full time position as Anatomy Teaching Fellow at University of Southampton, where I completed my Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice. Eighteen months later, I took up a new Teaching Fellow position at Brighton Sussex Medical School where I am currently leading anatomy courses and am studying a part-time PhD.”

“Within one week of completing the MSc I was offered a job as a teaching fellow in anatomy at Keele University, where I am now putting my knowledge to good use in teaching medical students.”

“I’ve gone on to do a PhD in a childhood form of motor neurone disease, which I found through doing my MSc summer project with a member of the anatomy staff. I still demonstrate anatomy to undergraduate students in my spare time.”

“During my masters, I found great enjoyment teaching anatomy to medical students on the ‘teaching anatomy’ module, and realised it was a career path I would like to try following graduation. I was fortunate enough to be offered a temporary teaching contract by the university following my successful MSc and this subsequently turned into a permanent anatomy teaching fellow position. I now teach medical students, masters students, Bachelor of Science students, and students enrolled on our new online distance course.”
