You will need at least a 2:1 degree at undergraduate level in a biological science and, if applicable, proven proficiency in English.
Degree requirements
You will need a strong background, at least a 2:1 or its equivalent at undergraduate level, in one or more of the following areas:
- Biochemistry
- Molecular biology
- Biophysics
- Pharmacology
If you have a background in chemistry, physics, computer science or informatics you will also be considered. Other scientific or medical backgrounds may also be considered on a case-by case basis. If you are unsure whether you have the required background, please contact us with details of your qualifications before applying so we can assess your suitability.
At least one year of chemistry at university level is expected.

English language requirements
If English is not your first language, you must be able to meet the minimum standards that are set out by the College and recommended by the University.
You can find further information on specific conditions and exemptions, as well as suitable forms of documentation, on the Edinburgh Global website.
If your language skills only meet the lower end of the requirements, the English Language Teaching Centre at the University run several courses in English for Academic Purposes. You can enrol in one of the August courses before starting the programme in September.
