LGBT+ Bio

LGBT+ Bio is a social group and welcoming space for LGBT+ staff and students from School of Biological Sciences and their friends to share conversations and catch-up.

After a very successful launch on 1 July 2019 meet ups took place the first Thursday of every month between 12:30 and 13:30 in person pre-pandemic.

We have recently restarted the meet ups online, still on the first Thursday of every month between 12:30 and 13:30 so look out for our email a few days before for the Teams link. Once restrictions allow we hope to move back to in person meet ups.

Staff and students from all Schools and professional services are welcome to join us!

Stonewall Workplace  Equality Index - Staff Feedback Survey

As part of the process for the University submission for this year’s Stonewall Workplace Index, we have been asked by Stonewall to circulate their staff feedback survey to our employees.

The purpose of the survey is to assess the impact of organisational practice on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Trans (LGBT) inclusion in the workplace, seeking feedback directly from our employees. The survey questions are around key indicators of inclusion in the workplace – examining both LGBT and non-LGBT employee experiences, opinions and attitudes.

We would appreciate your participation in this voluntary survey which should only take 5 minutes to complete. The information you provide is anonymous and completely confidential; it is not possible for individuals to be identified through their responses. Stonewall take every care to ensure that your responses are stored and processed securely.

Further information and a link to the survey at:

http://www.stonewall.org.uk/index-survey-2018

If participating in the survey you must enter the University of Edinburgh assigned four digit code. This code is the identifier used to distinguish responses from University of Edinburgh for analysis. Please check your emails for an email from Equality, Diversity & Inclusion with the code. The survey closes on Friday 3 November 2017.

University of Edinburgh Trans Equality Policy

As part of its wider Equality and Diversity strategy the University is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming community where staff and students are enabled to meet their full potential and are treated as individuals. This includes providing support and understanding to those individuals who wish to take, or have taken, steps to present themselves in a gender different to their birth gender.

Trans Equality Policy

Equality Challenge Unit publication

This trans staff and students in higher education guidance is designed to be a resource for staff who are aware of or supporting a colleague or student who is considering transitioning to their preferred gender, is in the process of transitioning, or has transitioned. It can also be used to increase staff awareness of gender identity issues and inform the development of institutional policies and processes to support, and combat discrimination against, trans staff and students.
