Discover how you could spend up to a year of your degree studying abroad.

You can study abroad in the third year, and it is essential that you plan this well in advance. You must decide which Honours degree programme you would like to take in fourth year (i.e. after returning from abroad), and ensure that the courses you take elsewhere will give you an adequate background. The Honours programme organiser must agree your courses before you go and this should be done in plenty of time, and the School's Exchange Coordinator will sign these off. It is up to you to research the offerings at these universities and check whether the courses are taught in English.

While on exchange, you are expected to pass all your courses. Your academic performance while abroad does NOT contribute to your final degree classification, so it will be determined by your grades in Year 4 only.

Steps for going on exchange

If you are accepted into an exchange programme for the coming year, to ensure that you are well prepared please follow the following steps:

1	Think about which Honours Programme you would like to do. Honours Programmes (secured)
2	Apply online through the Study and Work Away Service, you can apply to BOTH Subject Specific and University Wide places, applications open in November each year. Apply online
3	Contact your Honours programme Organiser to discuss your Learning Agreement (the document that outlines what you will study at your host university). Once you have an agreed list of courses, email BOTH your Honours Programme Organiser and the School's Exchange Coordinator with the Learning Agreement PDF (generated on Mobility Online) Honours Programme Organiser contacts (secured) Academic Matters - here you can find the credit requirements for your host institution.
4	Register your Honours Programme choice online. Working with both your Honours Programme Organiser and the School’s Exchange Coordinator you should create a list of courses that you intend to take while on exchange (this will be described as a Learning Agreement). Planning to study abroad

It is essential that you plan to study abroad well in advance. You must decide which Honours degree programme you would like to take in fourth year (i.e. after returning from abroad), and ensure that the courses you take elsewhere will give you an adequate background.
It is up to you to research the offerings at host universities and check whether the courses are taught in English. Be aware that your subject will not necessarily be offered by all our partner institutions so you must check, before you apply, that suitable courses are offered by the university/ies that you plan to apply for. This can be done by checking the partner university's online information.

Academic Performance

Places to study abroad are competitive and places will be offered to those who have demonstrated their ability to obtain excellent/good grades, as well as personal motivation to study abroad.
You must have passed all your second year courses in the first sitting (120 credits) to be accepted on exchange. While on exchange, you are expected to pass all your courses.
