Coursework Extension Requests

Reasons for coursework extensions are unexpected short-term circumstances that are exceptional and beyond your control, and which may have an adverse impact on your ability to complete the assessment on time.

An extension can be applied for when you require a short extension of up to 3 calendar days.

• The actual amount of days available to you for an extension is at the discretion of the school that owns the course. 
• Schools may choose not to permit extensions on particular components of an assessment. You can still apply for special circumstances for these components.

If you are unsure if the assessment you wish to apply for qualifies, please contact your course administrator.

Extensions explained

You can apply for an extension any time before the deadline of that assessment. 

• You cannot apply for an extension to an assessment after the submission date and time has passed.

• If feedback will be provided before 3 days is up you won’t be able to apply for the full extension.

• If you missed the deadline for applying for an extension because of exceptional circumstances, you can apply for special circumstances.

You can discuss your situation with your Student Adviser. They can advise you and ensure that you are being supported effectively. 

Student Support Team

After submitting a complete application for an extension, the University will notify you of the decision within two working days.  

• If your extension request is approved: The university will confirm how many days you have an extension.
• If your extension request is not approved: You must submit your assessment to the original deadline. Any assessment submitted following this date will incur a late penalty.
