Philanthropy and The School of Biological Sciences

Philanthropy has always been at the very heart of what Edinburgh University does, and the School of Biological Sciences has always been a part of that tradition. The first Genetics Building at the University, opened in 1930 and now known as the Crew Building, was brought into existence by a £30,000 grant which was matched by funding from a variety of individuals and public organisations. The Ashworth Building too was built through one extremely generous public donation as well as grants from The Carnegie and The Rockefeller Trusts.
