Space Bridges: Facilitating Future Space Careers
Be part of the UK space sector!
The Space Bridges programme offers short courses to upskill and inspire our future space workforce. Whether you are a technically minded school leaver, an experienced professional looking to move into the space sector or seeking specialised knowledge to advance your career in the space industry, we have a course for you. We encourage applications from those who have taken a career break or are from a disadvantaged background.
Utilising the University of Edinburgh’s expertise in space data, we are offering online courses with in-person workshops and networking opportunities. These are technically qualified courses co-created with industry for people looking to upskill and move into or progress their career within the space sector. We are also offering data and fintech professionals in the finance sector the opportunity to learn how space data can be used within their business.
The Space Bridges project is run in partnership with Fife College and Edinburgh Space Hub at the University of Edinburgh with academic input from across the University, managed by the Bayes Centre, and is funded by the UK Space Agency.

Who Should Study with Space Bridges?

Talent within the space sector who require upskilling to address skills gaps within their own organisations.

Skilled workers from outwith the sector whose expertise could be applied to space once they have an understanding of space terminology, the conditions of the space sector, and the way in which space data can be utilised.

New young workers entering the space sector looking to gain a baseline understanding of the key issues and technologies.
Registration
We anticipate high demand for these courses and recommend registering as soon as possible once registration links are available, approximately one month ahead of the course start dates. You will be asked to provide a supporting statement at the time of application, and this will be used to assess applications with priority given to those who have recently taken a career break or are from a disadvantaged background in order to widen participation.
Places on each course are limited and are not guaranteed and you will receive confirmation if you are successful in your application 1-week before the start of each course. If you are unsuccessful in obtaining a course in the first year of this programme you will be waitlisted for next year and offered a place at the fee rate.
Additional Opportunities
Fife College have partnered with the University of Edinburgh to offer the Geospatial Foundation Skills Programme as part of the Space Bridges initiative. This is a comprehensive training programme designed for school leavers and adults seeing to break into Scotland’s growing geospatial sector by gaining essential skills in in cartography, GIS software, and image processing while working on real-world projects and completing hands-on projects.

Course Fees
Course Fees are £500 per person however in the first year of the programme, a limited number of fully funded places are offered to UK residents through funding from the UK Space Agency. This includes courses running September 2024 to March 2025.
