Complex systems like the brain, ecologies, economies, societies, disease spread, and environmental systems require a vast web of multidisciplinary research to understand and predict, essential in preparing ourselves for current and future challenges.

Here we highlight research across the University of Edinburgh related to complex systems.

Our view of complex systems is broad, often involving systems which exhibit emergence. This includes techniques used to understand these systems such as network analysis, nonlinear dynamics, statistical mechanics, simulations, and game theory. However, we also incorporate research which studies how advancements in complex systems have been implemented, their historical development, and their dissemination in media among many others.
