Bayes Centre News: Bayes Centre Crowns ionburst as Pitch of the day at EIE21
Edinburgh-based data protection startup Ionburst won Pitch of the Day at the EIE21 premier tech investor conference.
EIE, delivered by the University of Edinburgh’s Bayes Centre in partnership with DDI is a year-round programme highlighted by a day of pitching to investors from across the globe.
Taking place on June 10th at a virtual event, the investor day showcased 35 data-driven cutting edge tech startups as they pitched for funding from seed to series A.
The day started with 25 companies completing 3 minute pitches, and finished with 10 companies who had the opportunity for extended pitch’s which lasted for 5 minutes. The 10 extended pitch companies were eligible for being voted as pitch of the day by the EIE21 audience.
The extended pitch companies consisted of:

- ionburst
- iOPt
- Libereat
- Nebu-Flow
- Net AI
- Transwap
From the fantastic line up, ionburst stood out from the crowd and received the most votes to win pitch of the day.
The company’s platform addresses data leaks in the cloud for SMEs and larger corporates at a time when hackers and ransomware are becoming more prevalent worldwide.
CFO of ionburst Anne Lanc, a former Treasury Director at BlackRock, said:

Previous EIE Pitch of the Day winners include Callum Murray-founded identity verification software specialist Amiqus, Amy Williams-founded ethical advertising technology startup Good-Loop, and Rotimi Alabi-founded “laboratory on a chip” tech firm RAB-Microfluidics. CEO of the UK Business Angels Association Jenny Tooth OBE said:

The quality of entrepreneur pitches was excellent, showcasing some very significant innovations and disruptive technologies applied across a wide range of sectors and markets. It’s great to see EIE go from strength to strength.”
EIE has supported over 500 tech startups since 2008 who have collectively raised over $1 billion from seed through to Series A and later stage funding – with Current Health, FanDuel, Celtic Renewables, Amiqus, Novosound, Two Big Ears, Speech Graphics, pureLiFi and mLed among EIE alumnus companies.
Mike Welch OBE, one of the keynote speakers at EIE21 who is now running one of the world’s largest online tyre retailers, Miami-headquartered Tirebuyer, commenting on Scotland’s tech scene said:
