The University of Edinburgh was founded in 1583, and today we’re proud to be one of the world’s top 20 universities for data science (15th in the world) QS World University Rankings 2023

We are ranked #1 in the UK for research power in Computer Science and Informatics Times Higher Education ranking.

Personal and Professional Development

Learn data science in an integrated and industry-driven educational environment. Our Masters will give you the skills necessary to lead on projects and foster innovation in the workplace.

Courses can be chosen based on your needs and existing skill set. Our programme allows you to take courses which range from introductory Python through to the advanced study of neuroimaging.

If you’re looking to pursue a personal venture or work within an early-stage organisation, you will have the opportunity to learn how to guide business strategy and leverage data in your decision-making. By exploring case studies and through lectures and discussions, you will gain an awareness of the legal, managerial, interpersonal, and analytical skills relevant to setting up and running a new venture in the fields of data and AI.

The structure of our Masters allows you to gradually focus your education by taking increasingly specialised courses. As your ambitions evolve, so too can your education: this is one of the unique qualities of our interdisciplinary online programme. For example, should you begin moving into fields that require a greater understanding of health data science, your programme of study can be tailored to meet these needs. Similarly, if you wish to focus on developing advanced programming skills, with the support of staff you can devise a programme of study to ensure you gain the skills most relevant to your career.

Regardless of the path you choose, you will leave with a set of practical tools that can be applied to solve real-world problems, coupled with an appropriate, principled approach to formulating solutions across data science and technology.

Delivery and Flexibility

You will learn in a supported online environment at The University of Edinburgh which grants you access to the tools and guidance necessary to gain a highly regarded postgraduate qualification without relocating or disrupting your employment. You will develop in-demand skills through video lectures, discussions, research, and workshops led by respected world-leading academics, on courses designed to equip you with real-world expertise.

The flexibility of our unique programme allows you to complete the 180 credits in as little as 24 months or gradually over a period of up to 6 years. You can take courses that fit around your schedule or take breaks from study when life gets in the way. One of the key benefits of this programme is that you can pay per course and spread your costs over your studies.

As the modules are stackable you can choose to pursue a Certificate or Diploma qualification which require fewer credits than a full Masters degree. To find out more about these study options and the programme structures, please click here:
