Art and Design degrees

As part of your application to a programme in Art or Design at the University of Edinburgh, you were asked to submit a digital mini-portfolio to provide evidence of your artistic aptitude and potential.

We were unable to consider your application further for one of the following reasons:

You did not submit a digital mini-portfolio

The submission of a digital mini-portfolio is the first stage in the application process to Art and Design programmes. We are not able to consider an application where a digital mini-portfolio has not been submitted by the submission deadline.

Your portfolio was not sufficiently competitive

Only those applicants whose mini-portfolio is considered to be of a very high standard are able to obtain a place on their chosen degree programme. Following the assessment of your portfolio, we regret we are unable to offer you a place on this programme.

If you would like advice about a future application to Art and Design, please contact the Undergraduate Admissions team from May onwards.

Your academic profile was not sufficiently competitive

While your mini-portfolio was assessed as being of an acceptable standard, it was decided not to take your application further because your academic profile was not sufficiently competitive. Given the nature of our degree programmes, we are looking for a strong academic profile alongside your portfolio submission. We assessed that either you did not meet our minimum entry requirements or there were other applicants whose portfolio was of a similar standard to yours but who presented a more competitive record of learning. Please note also that if you already have a degree or are currently undertaking university level study then your application may be deemed less competitive – in high-demand areas, preference will be given to those applying for their first degree.

If you would like advice about a future application to Art and Design, please contact the Undergraduate Admissions team from May onwards.
