Funding opportunities for PhD study

Here is information about where to source funding for PhD study.  There are opportunities offered by the University and the College as well as sources of funding from external funding bodies.

In order to be considered for one of these awards, you must make an application to the University within the deadline set by the relevant School.

The University is a member of the following Doctoral Training Partnerships.

AHRC (Arts & Humanities Research Council)

The University of Edinburgh is part of a consortium of Scottish Universities which have been awarded funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to support postgraduate studentships and training in the Arts and Humanities in Scotland.  

This Doctoral Training Partnership is run by Scottish Graduate School for Arts & Humanities (SGSAH) is a partnership between the AHRC, Scottish Funding Council, and 16 HEI members.

ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council)

The University of Edinburgh is part of a consortium of Universities in Scotland which have been awarded funding from the Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) to support postgraduate studentships and training in the Social Sciences in Scotland.

This Doctoral Training Partnership is run by the Scottish Graduate School of Social Science Doctoral Training Programme (SGSSS).
