Research and Knowledge Exchange

About the ESRC IAA

The University of Edinburgh is one of only two Scottish institutions and one of only twenty four across the UK to be awarded an Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

Proud to have been selected by the ESRC to enhance research impact

Developed in consultation with Knowledge Exchange (KE) specialists within the University of Edinburgh, our colleagues at the University of Glasgow and external partners, the aim of our programme is twofold:

• To increase the impact of our research, through enhanced relationships with the people who use it

• To learn more about maximising the impact of research, through sharing our experiences

The IAA funding is awarded from July 2014 until 31 March 2019 (extended from March 2018 for one more year) and, during this time, our Account programme is open to all staff working in the social sciences within the University of Edinburgh.

The programme is run, day-to-day, by the KE Office of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Science (CAHSS). It is directed by a Management Board spanning a range of disciplines and areas of expertise and an Advisory Group skilled in using research in evidence-based policymaking and industry.

For further information about the ESRC Impact Acceleration Account, please contact Anne Sofie Laegran in the CAHSS Knowledge Exchange team via the Contact us button to the top right of this page.

Impact from science and engineering

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) is not the first Research Council to award the University of Edinburgh an Impact Acceleration Account (IAA); we also have an IAA from the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC). This is important to us, as it allows us to work across our Colleges and Schools, strengthening existing synergies to ensure the continuity of our research excellence.
