Academic appointed to improve diversity in football

Chair of Sport Professor Grant Jarvie has been appointed to help enhance inclusivity in Scottish football.

Professor Jarvie has been invited to join the Scottish Football Association’s Equality and Diversity Advisory Board.

Promoting diversity

The board is designed to help move Scottish football towards a better representation of the country and ensure that the Scottish FA’s commitment to inclusion, equality and diversity is embedded throughout its structures, plans and activities.

I am really delighted to have been appointed. I have been committed to fighting inequality and creating opportunity all of my working life and recognise that football is a great social tool around which you can build other things. It has been and is a resource of hope in many parts of the world.

Community access

The Board will advise on issues relating to equality and diversity across all levels of the Association, including on key strategic documents and action plans.

It will provide access for communities across Scotland and be an advocate for the work of the SFA in national and international settings.

Grant brings a worldwide knowledge and practical experience of what sport can do in different communities. He is an experienced board member who has held equality and diversity portfolio’s, evidenced sports contribution to society and helped bring into being Scotland’s National Para Sports Centre.

Grant Jarvie’s appointment is a tribute to the excellence of his work on how sport can benefit communities, promoting equality and inclusion as well as promoting health. He will bring a wealth of experience to the SFA in this regard.
