Learning festival unlocks creative impulses
A DIY solar panel workshop, physics-inspired ceilidh dancing and a 24-hour filmmaking contest are among the highlights in the University’s Festival of Creative Learning.
A lively programme of more than 100 events will give students, staff and the wider community an opportunity to work together and learn new skills.
The Festival runs from 19-23 February. Most events are free and have all been voluntarily organised by students and staff.
Packed programme
Events include talks, conferences, field trips, workshops, film screenings, walking tours and games.

Creative learning
Among the highlights is a workshop on Monday, 19 February, exploring a day in the life of an aid worker.
Participants will draw up an emergency refugee response following a fictional natural disaster. They will receive support from professionals and academics working in the field.
Also on 19 February, an interactive virtual reality game will teach players about photosynthesis.
Innovative events
On Wednesday, 21 February, festival goers can try their hand at medieval techniques for dyeing wool and painting on parchment. The event is hosted by the Edinburgh Medieval Pigment Project.
Elsewhere, a day of field trips on Friday, 23 February, will take people to three sites to learn about food production.
They will visit the Roslin Institute, Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) and Whitmuir organic farm to find out about sustainable food practices.
