Edinburgh hub tackles global economic issues
Some 650 delegates are meeting in Edinburgh to assess the impact of labour and financial markets on the global economy.
The conference on 21 June, which is being hosted by the University, is held in association with the Bank of England and the Scottish Government.
International delegates
In attendance will be academics from around the world as well as representatives from the banking and business sectors and political realm.
The conference is a milestone in the MacCaLM project – Macroeconomics Credit and Labour Markets. It brings together economists to examine failures in economic markets – with a focus on malfunctions in labour and financial markets.
The project is led by Edinburgh’s Professor John Moore, an expert in credit cycles who has held the George Watson's and Daniel Stewart's Chair of Political Economy since 2000.
High profile speakers
MacCaLM began in 2015 and is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.
The speakers at this years’ conference include Giancarlo Corsetti, of the University of Cambridge ; Ricardo Reis, of London School of Economics ; Adam Szeidl of Central European University; and Mark Gertler, New York University.
Economic expertise
Among the topics to be explored are financial panics, interfirm relationships and business performance and monetary policy trade-offs.
A second high profile event – the 2017 Annual Meeting of the Society for Economic Dynamics (SED) – is being hosted from 22-24 June.
Among the topics will be business cycles, growth, monetary policy, public finance, international economics, and trade.
By a remarkable turn of events, two major macroeconomic conferences, MacCaLM and SED, are being held back-to-back in our School of Economics. We are very proud that this meeting is to take place in Edinburgh.
