Academic leads report on care system

A University lecturer has led a report on abuse in the the Scottish care system.

Dr Emily Taylor, a lecturer in the School of Health in Social Science, authored the report while on secondment at the the National Confidential Forum.

Abuse claims published 

The report featured anonymous accounts of 59 adults who suffered abuse while in care as children.

Accusations of systematic abuse include bullying, violence and child sex abuse.

Following the release of the What We Know So Far report, the news was featured in the Herald, Scotsman and the BBC.

The National Confidential Forum

The National Confidential Forum was set up to allow people who spent time in institutional care as children to come forward and share their experiences.

All hearings, where people tell of their experiences, are "confidential and non-judgemental and aim to contribute positively toward the health and wellbeing of those who take part".
