Lecture abstract

Against a backdrop in Scotland where black and ethnic minority pupils largely achieve better results than their white counterparts and with other pressing concerns such as the impact of poverty and failing levels of literacy and numeracy, it could be argued that 'race' equality while important is not a high priority.

Drawing from nearly 30 years of research and working in 'race' equality education in Scotland, the lecture explores the gains that have been made but will ask what more needs done, particularly in an era of Trump and Brexit.
