English Language Requirements

You must demonstrate a level of English language competency at a level that will enable you to succeed in your studies, regardless of your nationality or country of residence.

Accepted English language tests

We accept the following English language qualifications at the grades specified for most of our degree programmes:

  • IELTS Academic module overall 6.5 with 5.5 in each component
  • TOEFL-iBT 92 or above with 20 in each section
  • Cambridge English: C1 Advanced (CAE) or C2 Proficiency (CPE) overall 176 with 162 in each component
  • Trinity ISE: ISE II with a distinction in all four components
  • Gatehouse ESOL International (Interactive Test of English) Level 2 or Level 3 (not Level 1)

Note: Business, Nursing and Masters of Social Work degrees require higher grades which are listed in detail on the degree finder.

For our Business degree programmes, including Accounting and Finance programmes, we require the following grades:

  • IELTS Academic module overall 7.0 with 6.0 in each component
  • TOEFL-iBT 100 or above with 20 in each section
  • Cambridge English: C1 Advanced (CAE) or C2 Proficiency (CPE) overall 185 with 169 in each component
  • Trinity ISE: ISE III with a pass in all four components
  • Gatehouse ESOL International (Interactive Test of English) Level 2 or Level 3 (not Level 1)

We also accept a wider range of international academic school qualifications, please contact the admissions office for information on the grade required.

Academic English language qualifications must be no more than three and a half years old from the start date of the programme you are applying to study, unless you are using IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Trinity ISE, or Gatehouse, in which case it must be no more than two years old.
