Dean of Quality Assurance and Curriculum Approval

The Dean has responsibility to provide effective and proactive representation on behalf of the College in the development of Quality Assurance and Enhancement related policy, strategy and planning across the University.

 

The Dean of Quality Assurance and Curriculum Approval is a 0.4 FTE appointment.

 

The Dean of Quality Assurance and Curriculum Approval works with the Dean of Undergraduate Education, Dean of Postgraduate Education, Dean of Students and the Head of the Academic and Student Administration to oversee the planning and implementation of Quality Assurance and Enhancement and Curriculum Approval activities within the College.

The Dean will develop, articulate and monitor a strategy for Quality Assurance in the College in line with the University and external standards and ensure Quality Assurance and Enhancement priorities are enshrined in learning and teaching strategy and governance. 

The Dean is responsible for curriculum validation and approval at College level including new programme approval, portfolio review and validation and oversight of Board of Studies training, support and guidance on behalf of the College including responsibility for regular liaison with Board of Studies Convenors across the College.

The Dean convenes the College Quality Assurance Committee and College Programme and Curriculum Validation Panels, and is a member of College Undergraduate and Postgraduate Education Committees. The Dean represents the College on the Senatus Quality Assurance Committee and other University task groups, TPR and PPRs and Committees as required.

The Dean is responsible for monitoring Quality Enhancement changes and innovation within the College to ensure systems used by Schools establish and maintain appropriate standards for courses and programmes, assessment and teaching. 

The Dean will ensure appropriate actions are taken on examiners’ reports, TPR and PPR reports, and all report of external bodies accrediting degrees and courses within the College.

The Dean is supported by the College Head of Academic and Student Administration along with colleagues in the Admissions, Postgraduate Research Student, Visiting Student and Academic and Student Administration Offices. Together they seek to ensure effective delivery of support and guidance for Schools across the College including addressing policy review, consultations and process enhancements arising from Senate and College committees.

The Dean works closely with the other Deans in CAHSS and other Colleges and with senior College and University Professional Services Managers. The Dean reports to the Head of College and may be asked by the Head of College to assist with other aspects of College management such as convening appointments committees, or in attending certain University committees.
