2013 - Professor Lesley Yellowlees

Professor Lesley Yellowlees is Vice-Principal and Head of the College of Science and Engineering.

Lesley Yellowlees

Lesley completed both a BSc in Chemical Physics and a PhD in Inorganic Electrochemistry at the University of Edinburgh.

She is Vice Principal and Head of the College of Science and Engineering at Edinburgh, where she is leading activities to rejuvenate the King's Building campus and ensure research across all disciplines is cutting edge.

Lesley has worked with the Royal Society of Chemistry for many years, chairing their Science and Technology Board, sitting on the Publishing Board, working with the Scottish Education section and chairing the editorial board of Chemistry World. She became their first woman President in July 2012.

She was awarded an MBE in 2005 for services to science and also received a CBE in 2014 for services to chemistry.

While we often look externally to select our Alumnus of the Year, Lesley is such an outstanding researcher and leader and a stunning role model and advocate for women in Science, Engineering and Technology that we are delighted to have chosen one of our own members of staff this year.
