2001 - Katherine Grainger

Olympic rowing medallist Katherine Grainger started rowing as an undergraduate and was captain of The Edinburgh University Boat Club.

She won the Olympic silver medal in the Womens’s Quad Sculls in Sydney 2000.

She has won gold medals at the 2000 and 2001 Vienna World Cup and the 1998 British Championships as well as a bronze at the 1997 World Championships. Katherine was also awarded the Eva Bailey trophy for most outstanding female athlete in 1996 and 1997.

She graduated LLB from The University of Edinburgh in 1997 and completed an MPhil in Law and Ethics in Medicine at the University of Glasgow.

The last few years have been simply amazing and I am very aware that the foundation of the success I have achieved is due to the help, support and inspiration which I received when I was at The University of Edinburgh.
