Alumni stand in committee elections
Seven alumni are standing for positions on the General Council Business Committee, with elections taking place in February.
The Business Committee plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the views and concerns of graduates are effectively communicated to the University’s governing body, the University Court. It meets five times per year.
Members
The Business Committee is comprised of a Convener and a Vice-Convener, three Assessors to the University Court, the Chancellor's Assessor, twenty Elected Members and the Secretary of the Council. The period of office for Elected Members is four years.
In addition to the statutory obligations which it undertakes on behalf of the General Council with regard to the prosperity and well-being of the University, the Business Committee aims to assist the University in a number of ways.
Elections
Five members of the Business Committee are elected every year. Elections are held each February and are overseen by a representative of the Electoral Reform Society. At present, elections are by online voting with the option of a postal ballot on request.
