10 things for February 2020
This month's essential news, events and opportunities for alumni.
1. Being Edinburgh, the vote

You can now vote for your winner of the 2020 Being Edinburgh award. The award celebrates people who are making a difference and whose actions positively affect others. The online vote is open to all alumni, staff and students.
2. Mad Hatter, Grey Matter Festival 2020
The Mad Hatter, Grey Matter Festival 2020 takes place on 18-20 March. It has something for anyone curious about creativity and neuroscience. The programme provides an opportunity to utilise collections, archives and current research across the themes of creativity, neuroscience and psychology.
3. Postgraduate Virtual Open Week
Join us between 16 - 20 March for a range of online sessions that will allow you to find out more about our on campus postgraduate programmes, from wherever you are, through an online platform.
4. A message to China
Students and staff at the University of Edinburgh have sent a special video message of support to people in China following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus:

5. The Insights Programme

Are you passionate about what you do and would enjoy the opportunity to share your expertise and experiences with students? Perhaps you’d like to get involved in the University's Insights Programme, 1 - 5 June 2020. Insights helps undergraduate students who may have faced barriers accessing university or those from under-represented groups to develop confidence, skills and connections to prepare for their career journey through meeting Edinburgh alumni – in central Scotland and host cities London, Brussels, Singapore, New York, San Francisco, Boston, Washington DC.

6. Community grant scheme hits £200k milestone
A clinic for homeless people's pets, a data literacy club and a choir for refugees are among recent local projects to be backed by University grants.
7. University joins forces with Charteris Centre
The University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Greyfriars Charteris Centre to support the local community.
8. New MOOC tackles data ethics

Our future is here and it relies on data. Predictive policing, medical robots, smart homes and cities, artificial intelligences - we can all think about how any of those could go wrong. And you can discover how we can build a future where they are done right by enrolling on the new MOOC: 'Data Ethics, AI and Responsible Innovation'.
9. EUSSC's 2020 Club Reunion Weekend
Calling all former members Edinburgh University Snowsports Club! The Club will be hosting a reunion day for alumni and current members on Saturday 23 May, including a barbeque and ceilidh. More details can be found on the Facebook event page:
10. Join the Boat Club at Henley
The Edinbugh University Boat Club would like to invite alumni to a reception at the Henley Royal Regatta on Saturday 4 July - a great opportunity for a class celebration! For more information or to RSVP email rowing.alumni@ed.ac.uk.
