Airborne Data Laboratory
To process the very large volumes of data generated by our airborne operations we run a suite of purpose built workstations with appropriate software licences.
Dedicated workstations and software are provided for handling the very large datasets produced by airborne platforms – in particular for image processing using structure-from-motion techniques and multi- and hyper-spectral image processing.
We have four workstations on strength. All are custom built and optimised for cost-effective processing of airborne datasets. Memory capacity is generally the limiting factor in the size of task that can processed; our workstations range in memory capacity from 64Gb to 256Gb.
The ADL workstations are available to UoE researchers and students for use with datasets generated either through AIrborne GeoSciences, or collected independantly.
The most commonly used software packages for processing aerial imagery and multispectral datasets with the ADL are Aigisoft Photoscan and Pix4D.
Access to the ADL resources are managed according to the procedures laid out in the ADL Operations Manual which is maintained on our internal Sharepoint site.
