Staff training

Supervisors

Molecular, Genetic and Population Health Sciences has developed online training to support supervisors, particularly but not exclusively for early career researchers. A mentoring scheme for new supervisors is also available. (Commended by Internal Review)

Tutoring and demonstrating

Chemistry supports teaching and demonstrating by Principal’s Career Development Scholar and School staff being in the lab. This helps enhance feedback, marking and peer support practises. (Commended by Internal Review)

Social Anthropology provides development opportunities for postgraduate tutors such as training and guidance, observation of tutoring, and gathering feedback at individual tutor level. (Commended by Internal Review)

Physics and Astronomy presentation to the Postgraduate Research Supervisor Network on their Teaching Assistant training programme which also considers the challenges for first time tutors.

Personal Tutors

The School of Engineering provides peer support training for new Personal Tutors. This includes inviting them to Special Circumstances Committees to develop an understanding of the process to aid support of tutees, and the opportunity to meet with the Deputy Senior Tutor to discuss practice.
