The University actively engages with our local community and wider society. We work with partners to share our knowledge and improve access to education for the benefit of all.
Our community activities
Our goals are to make a positive intellectual, educational, economic, scientific and cultural contributions to society and to promote understanding of, and support for, the University and its work.
Our approach is to encourage and support the University community of staff and students to play active roles within the local community and wider society for the mutual benefit of all.
- Play a leading role in enhancing public understanding of educational, scientific and cultural developments.
- Contribute to public debate, engage and influence policy makers globally, nationally and locally.
- Encourage greater use of University buildings, facilities and services, and greater participation in events, by local people and visitors to Edinburgh.
- Develop mutually beneficial relations with other organisations, businesses and our 20,000 local alumni.
