Staff Project Grant

Do you have an exciting and innovative idea to promote sustainability at the University? Big or small, if you think your idea could make a difference, our department are offering grants of up to £500 to help make it a reality.

The Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability has launched a grant to support projects from the staff community focusing on sustainability and social responsibility. The fund is designed to encourage the development or maintenance of projects or initiatives that improve campus sustainability and the University’s environmental performance, reduce emissions and promote positive behaviour change. The Social Responsibility and Sustainability Staff Project Grant can provide funding of up to £500 for members of University staff looking to develop and implement projects and initiatives around:

  • Energy and carbon
  • Fair trade and purchasing
  • Food and drink
  • Community, welfare and wellbeing
  • Recycling and resource efficiency
  • Sustainability in research, learning and teaching
  • Sustainable ICT
  • Sustainable laboratories
  • Sustainable travel

We are looking to the staff community for exciting and innovative ideas for projects that will promote sustainability awareness within the University.

Have you got a great idea for a project that could engage staff in your area about sustainability issues? Are you keen to host and promote a sustainability themed event, or organise a workshop to look at SRS issues in your area? Perhaps you want to attend a conference, arrange for training, set up a food sharing network, organise a series of film nights, or initiate a competition with another department, team or unit around energy or resource efficiency. You may already be involved in a community garden, apiary or local food growing initiative or want to carry out a campus wildlife or other biodiversity survey.

Whatever your area of interest, University staff can now apply to the Staff Project Grant for a maximum of £500 to support their initiatives and projects.

For an application form, or If you have any questions, please contact Jane Rooney.

Depending on the number and size of applications we may only be able to support a few and in this first trial we will review applications on a ‘first come / first served’ basis.  We will endeavour to give you a response within 1-2 weeks of receiving your application.
