The Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability achieves Investors in People Silver accreditation

Silver accreditation recognises that the department takes action to lead, support and improve its staff.

We are proud to join eight other departments at the University of Edinburgh who have achieved the prestigious Investors in People Accreditation, in our case, the silver award.

Investors in People is an international people management standard that assesses employers according to how they lead, support and manage the people who make their organisation what it is. The criteria encompass current best practice and were recently updated to the tougher 6th generation of the scheme in 2015. There are four levels of accreditation: Accredited, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

To be recognised as a silver accredited workplace by Investors in People helps reaffirm one of our core values: ‘to practice what we preach’. As the Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability, we do our best to set a good example. Part of this is how we support our own team.

This is a fantastic achievement for the University of Edinburgh's Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability. I would like to congratulate the organisation and its people on their commitment to continuous improvement.

About our Department

The Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability works to enable the University to understand, explain and deliver on its ambition to be a leading socially responsible and sustainable university.

The University of Edinburgh is committed to being a world leader in addressing global challenges including poverty, climate change and the growing demand for energy, food and water.

The Department was created in 2014 to understand how the University can work to respond to these challenges. One of our recent endeavours was the launch of the University's Zero by 2040 Climate Strategy.

Ensuring our staff are well led, well supported and able to develop their skills and knowledge is really important to us, so I'm delighted we recently achieved the IiP Silver Award. The process has given us some really useful feedback and we have clear areas to work on as well. Here’s to a Gold Award next time!
