Sustainability

Foreword

In the first Social Responsibility and Sustainability report since our Zero by 2040 target was launched, I am proud to draw attention to the progress that students and staff have made over the last year.

Our Climate Strategy lays out a comprehensive whole institution approach to climate change mitigation and adaptation to achieve that ambitious net zero carbon target.

We’ve also adopted a new Responsible Investment Policy to support the transition to a low carbon economy, made commitments on conflict minerals and modern slavery, and have been supporting efforts to promote sustainable procurement within our supply chains.

The Dignity and Respect Policy was approved in February 2016, strengthening the University’s commitment to creating and fostering a culture of equality and diversity, dignity and respect and collegiality.

This year also brings us to the end of the University’s current Strategic Plan for 2012-16 and this report again highlights the hard work and dedication of our students and staff, that have progressed our social responsibility and sustainability journey. We aim to build on these achievements in the years ahead and will be revising our current Social Responsibility and Sustainability Strategy 2010-20 to support the delivery of the University’s new Strategic Plan 2016 and vision.
