The efforts of staff and students to make a more sustainable and socially responsible university have been recognised by a number of national award schemes.
Food for Life
The John McIntyre Centre at Pollock Halls was awarded a Food for Life Bronze Catering Mark, making Edinburgh the first university in Scotland to receive recognition from the Soil Association for locally-sourced, high welfare and nutritious food.
2012-13 Highlights
The Scottish Centre for Regenerative Medicine won the New Laboratory Building prize, and the School of Chemistry won a Laboratory Environmental Improvement prize for their Chemical Management system at the 2013 S-Lab Conference.
The School of Chemistry holds one of only three Athena SWAN Gold Awards in the United Kingdom, reflecting the commitment to the advancement and promotion of the careers of women in science, engineering, technology mathematics and medicine.
The University's Procurement Office won the Outstanding Procurement Team Award at the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards in June 2013.

People & Planet awarded the University an Upper Second Class Award in the Green League, gaining full marks on ethical investment, fair trade and ethical procurement, environmental policy and staff.
The University successfully renewed its Healthy Working Lives Gold Award, highlighting the continued commitment to promote a safer and healthier workforce.
