The University's first Gaelic Officer works to raise the profile of Gaelic at the University and to create opportunities for its use.
The University hired its first Gaelic Officer, Bria Mason, in February 2013. The role involves promoting Gaelic language activities and raising the profile of Gaelic language and Gaelic culture across the University, as well as implementation of the commitments in the University’s Gaelic Language Plan 2013-2018.
The post is part of the University’s Gaelic Language Plan and follows the establishment of similar posts at the University of Glasgow, the University of Aberdeen and Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.
Bria graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2009 with an MA (Hons) in Celtic before completing an MLitt in Language Policy and Planning with the University of Aberdeen. She came to the Gaelic Officer role from Highlands and Islands Enterprise, where she was involved in all aspects of the development of their second Gaelic Language Plan.
