Learning and Teaching

5 Year BVM&S Curriculum

Years 1-2: Pre-clinical

Students learn about the normal function of the animal body from the cell level to the entire organism. Clinical and professional skills are taught from the first year of the programme. Extra Mural Studies (EMS) are a key component of the degree and students are required to complete 12 weeks of Animal Husbandry placements by the end of the second year.

Years 3-5: Clinical

Students learn about disease and treatment with species-specific integrated courses as well as learning about pathology, pharmacology and veterinary public health. Students are also required to complete 26 weeks of clinical EMS placements by the end of final year. Final year comprises clinical rotations in our on-site hospital facilities, giving students real-life exposure to the work they will be undertaking following graduation.

4 Year GEP BVM&S Curriculum

Year 1: Pre-clinical

An extended first year starting in early August in which students learn about the normal function of the animal body from the cell level to the entire organism. Clinical and professional skills are taught from the first year of the programme. Extra Mural Studies (EMS) are a key component of the degree and students are required to complete 12 weeks of Animal Husbandry placements by the end of the first year (up to 6 weeks can be completed prior to the start of the course).

Years 2-4: Clinical

Students learn about disease and treatment with species-specific integrated courses as well as learning about pathology, pharmacology and veterinary public health. Students are also required to complete 26 weeks of clinical EMS placements by the end of final year. Final year comprises clinical rotations in our on-site hospital facilities, giving students real-life exposure to the work they will be undertaking following graduation.
