Accreditation
The R(D)SVS is accredited by American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Council on Education and The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).
Following the award of the degree of BVM&S, the graduates can join the Royal College of Veterinary Medicine and receive a license to practice veterinary medicine in the United Kingdom.
Brexit and European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE)
The R(D)SVS is a member of, and approved by, EAEVE - but since the UK left the European Union in January 2021, UK veterinary degrees are no longer automatically recognised by EU member states.
Each county in the EU/EEA will therefore recognise your UK degree based on their own rules and regulations, and some countries may require you to take further exams before you can work in their country. You should check the local rules and regulations in the country you are planning to work in after your graduation. A list of competent authorities within the EU is listed on the Federation of Veterinarians in Europe (FVE) website:

Ireland
The RCVS and the Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI) have a Mutual Qualification Recognition Agreement which allows for the continued recognition of each other’s accredited veterinary degrees. Anyone wishing to practice veterinary medicine in Republic of Ireland are required to register with the VCI.

NAVLE
In order to practice in North America, in addition to our BVM&S degree, graduates must pass the examination prepared and delivered by the National Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. That examination is the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination or NAVLE®. The examination is administered twice annually in November/December and in April. The success rate, or pass rate, of the graduates of a veterinary medical educational program on the NAVLE examination is one of the factors considered by AVMA in its annual consideration of the accreditation status of a school or college.
