Necropsy submissions from internal clinicians

Information on submitting subjects for Necropsy from internal clinicians.

General information

Prior to submission, please ensure that the necropsy request has been entered into Provet (including relevant history) and that the cadaver is labelled with the Provet ID number and animal details. Please contact the duty pathologist or the post mortem room technician for help with specific queries. You can also contact EBP Reception on 51-7458 between 9.00 am and 5pm for general guidance. Please deliver cadavers to Necropsy as outlined below (Delivery of Cadavers to Necropsy).

Private cremations (small animals)

If the animal is for private cremation, please ensure the cadaver is in the correct type of bag and clearly labelled for private cremation. EBP is unable to organise individual cremations - this is the responsibility of the submitting clinician. Cadavers for cremation are collected regularly from EBP by Pet Crematorium. Please liaise with the post mortem room technician on individual cases.

Arrangements are as for normal working hours but you will need out-of-hours swipe card access into the building to raise the roller door. If you have any card access problems please contact the Campus Facilities Manager (Brian McTeir). Alternatively, you can leave cadavers in the empty bay in the skip disposal room (next to the back door). This is a refrigerated room with motorised roller doors and you will still need out-of-hours swipe card access.

Large animals within normal working hours

Please deliver cadavers for post mortem examination to the back door of the pathology/anatomy wing behind the new vet school using the specialised cover trailer driven by authorised driver.
