Current

He has been a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh since April 2002.

Currently Mr Dawson is an examiner for the intercollegiate MRCS examination and assists as a tutor on the RCS of Edinburgh Higher Surgical Skills Course.

His main field of interest has been vascular trauma, complex aortic surgery and carotid surgery for the prevention of stroke.

Past

Mr Dawson qualified MBChB with distinction in surgery from the University of Cape Town having been awarded the De Beers Scholarship for Medicine as an undergraduate.

Mr Dawson’s initial training was in general surgery, and then specialized in vascular surgery, which is a registered sub-specialty in South Africa.

He was engaged in private practice with an honorary lecturer post in vascular surgery at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

During this period he served as Secretary for the Association of Surgeons of South Africa (1995-2000).

President of the Vascular Society of Southern Africa (1999-2001).

Vice President Southern African Chapter ISCVS (1999-2001).

Chairman of the SA Medical Association Private Practice Committee. (1999-2002).
