Mr Rainey retains an interest in coloproctology but his main clinical interest lies in breast disease in the specialist unit in the Western and, combined with emergency general surgery, in the Borders.

Current

Mr Rainey moved to his current post in 2002 he is also the Lead Cancer Clinician and Associate Medical Director for Borders Health.

He is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Medical Society and an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

He is active in both undergraduate and postgraduate education.

Past

In 1988 Mr Rainey, following a year as temporary Senior Lecturer in Surgery and Honorary Consultant Surgeon to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, he was appointed Consultant Surgeon in West Lothian, initially at Bangour General Hospital and subsequently at St John’s, Livingston.

He undertook his postgraduate training in Edinburgh, Bristol and London between 1977 and 1987.

Mr Rainey trained at St Mark’s Hospital, London.
