Open Day activities - location

All Open Day activities for Medicine will take place in the Medical School, Chancellor's Building, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

Information desk

Staff will be available for consultation on admissions, curriculum and career options.

Visitors will also be able to talk to current medical students about life as a medical student at Edinburgh.

Information desks will be located in the Common Room in the Medical School.

Talks

Ticketing

All Medicine talks will be ticketed in order to allow us to manage demand. Any left-over tickets will be available from the information desk in the Medical School on the day. Experience suggests that demand will exceed supply for the earlier talks.

After you have booked a place at the Open Day, we will send you a link by email to allow you to book tickets for the Medicine talks in advance.

Talks for prospective students

The talk 'Becoming an Edinburgh Medical Student" will take place at 1030-1130, and be repeated at 1200-1300 and 1330-1430 in Lecture Theatre A in the Medical School.

This talk will include information on admissions; the UCAS application system, academic and non-academic requirements (including work experience), and the UKCAT. The talk will also cover the curriculum, including structure, teaching and assessment types, locations of placements and teaching and learning outcomes.

Please note that you will only be able to book one place per prospective student for this talk. We regret that we are unable to offer tickets to parents or teachers due to the volume of visitors expected.

Talks for teachers and parents

A talk for teachers and the parents of prospective applicants will take place at 1030-1130 and be repeated at 1200-1300 and 1330-1430 in Lecture Theatre B in the Medical School.

This talk will include information about about medical admissions, medical research and student support.

Clinical skills demonstrations

Clinical skills demonstrations will take place throughout the day in the Medical School.

Tours

Visitors are invited to tour the Medical School Library. Tours will run at regular intervals. Further information will be available on the day from the information desk in the Medical School.

Travelling to the Medical School

We are running a free shuttle bus service on Open Day which operates between the Medical School and the George Square campus.

Please allow plenty of time to get between campuses as traffic may slow down the buses.

Visitors may prefer to travel directly to the Medical School rather than travelling via George Square.

The Edinburgh Royal Infirmary/Medical School is well served by local bus services from the city centre and from the Park and Ride facility at Sheriffhall on the city bypass. More details are available from the links below on travelling to the University.
