Bursaries and scholarships

Bursaries and scholarships are a good way of funding your studies without incurring debt.

hand full of change

We offer a large number of entrance bursaries and scholarships to full-time undergraduate students.

We want to continue to attract the very best students, regardless of financial circumstances.

Our bursaries are designed to provide financial assistance to help students support themselves during their time at university, while our scholarships aim to reward academic excellence.

I applied for a bursary knowing that university would be expensive, even with a job during the semester. I am in no doubt that the bursary has allowed me to realise my full academic capacity, without having to worry about financial restrictions. Edinburgh is a beautiful city and I soon felt at home living here. With so much going on I am glad that I have another 3 years left to experience what Edinburgh has to offer.

Sports Bursaries

If you compete at or are close to national standards in your sport, you may be selected onto our Sports Bursary Programme.

Sports Bursaries are available for outstanding student athletes who make major contributions to student sport within the University.

The bursary will include an education programme, sports medicine care from FASIC (our specialist Fitness Assessment and Sports Injury Centre), sports centre membership, financial support of up to £350, and tutorial support from Centre for Sport and Exercise staff.

Golf bursaries, to the value of £1,500, are also available for outstanding golfers who wish to develop their academic and golfing talents to the fullest potential.

The bursaries are sponsored by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.

Industrial Scholarships

Most of our industrial scholarships award around £1,000 for each year of your undergraduate programme of study and involve a paid placement with a company during the summer months.

Eligible students of biological sciences, chemistry, engineering or informatics can apply.

Scholarship opportunities also exist for those who have achieved the best entrance qualifications in physics and mathematics.

A number of companies, who also offer work placements during the summer months, fund these scholarships.
