How you will be taught
Lectures and tutorials make up the majority of teaching time, although some programmes also use other teaching methods.
Lectures and tutorials
You will be taught through a combination of lectures and tutorials, with laboratory work for science-based courses.
For most courses, lectures form the main teaching framework. They provide a guide to the subject matter and set out the foundations upon which you can build your knowledge.
Tutorials consist of a small group of students and give you the opportunity to develop and discuss themes with academic staff. Tutorials are often based on written work.
Additional teaching methods
As well as lectures and tutorials, we use a wide range of additional teaching methods, including:
- seminars
- practical and laboratory sessions
- supervised individual and group project work
- problem-based learning
- peer-assisted learning
- self-study
- e-teaching
Variations
Our programmes vary considerably in terms of course content, teaching, learning and assessment.
