Joining the Library

As a student on a credit course, you are entitled to library access and computer rights from the start of your course. You may claim this entitlement only after you have enrolled onto a OLL credit course and only after you have returned an Intention to Study Credit form.

You can be issued with a new card if you enrol for additional credit courses once your first card has expired.

If you are a student on a non-credit course, you are entitled to use the library for reference purposes only. You need to register with the library.

Student Card Application form

Once you have completed the Intention to Study Credit form, a Card Application form will be emailed to the email address you gave when you enrolled for your course.

You need to return this with a photograph to the Card Services Unit, University of Edinburgh Main Library, George Square, Edinburgh EH8 9LJ. Please indicate when you return the form whether you want your student card to be posted to you or whether you would prefer to pick this up from the Main Library Helpdesk.

A matriculated student card will be prepared for you within 24 hours, Monday to Friday. You need to take a valid picture ID with you when you go to the library to collect your card.
