Certificate of Higher Education

Study part-time for credit and gain a Certificate of Higher Education.

Introduction

The Certificate of Higher Education is a nationally recognised university qualification.

In order to gain this award, students must accumulate 120 credits chosen from any of the credit courses (SCQF level 7) offered in the Open Studies and Art and Design Studies programmes.

To qualify for the Certificate, students must register for the Certificate and complete their study within a period of five years. This will allow considerable flexibility in the intensity of study.

Most students will find it possible to achieve the required credit points within three years.

Using your Certificate

The Certificate of Higher Education is a national qualification in its own right, recognised by many employers and other universities.

Credits from the Office of Lifelong Learning

If you have studied with the Office of Lifelong Learning and already acquired credit that you wish to count towards the Certificate award, you can still register for the Certificate.

The five year rule can be applied retrospectively. In which case, the ‘start date’ would commence from the year your first credit course began.

It is in your interest to register for the Certificate first and then plan a programme of study that will suit individual circumstances and preferences.

Credits from another institution

If you have successfully acquired credit from another institution at SCQF level 7 you may be able to count all or some of this credit towards the 120 points required for the award of the Certificate of Higher Education.

Students with APL may count up to a maximum of 40 level 7 credits, or one third of the total number of credits needed for the Certificate.

Students who wish to claim recognition of APL would in the first instance need to produce evidence of the qualifications and credit.

Acceptance of such qualifications would be at the complete discretion of the University and would be conditional, pending the final approval of the next meeting of the Board of Examiners.

How to apply

There are no admission requirements. Students must pay a registration fee of £100.

Registration can be made in person at Reception or by downloading a PDF of the registration form (requires a PDF viewer such as Adobe Reader) and returning it to the Office of Lifelong Learning.
