The Postgraduate Certificate in Health and Social Care – Children and Young People’s Mental Health: Ecological Approaches is an exciting new programme which offers an entirely online approach to study in this area. The Certificate comprises of three core courses which focus on the ecology of childhood, which sees the child as part of a number of interconnected systems, including the family, social networks, schools, and the wider community:
Aimed mainly at those students working with clients / patients and service-users in this area of health and social care, including practitioners, managers, service planners and commissioners in health, social care, social work or allied health professions, this Postgraduate Certificate will support the translation of theory and learning into practice encouraging critical thinking about conceptualisations of mental health and illness in children and young people.
Students who wish to continue their study following the successful completion of the three certificate courses have the option to transfer to the Postgraduate Diploma or MSc in Health and Social Care or to the Postgraduate Diploma or MSc in Children and Young People's Mental Health in Social Science. The courses are all part-time and are studied online using e-learning. Attendance at Edinburgh is not required as you will participate online from your home location. You will have the opportunity to work closely with fellow students and tutors in a supported online environment. Courses are taught through a combination of independent study, self reflection and online working using a range of technologies. This includes virtual classrooms, wikis and social media. You will have full access to the University of Edinburgh digital library collections.
Assessment consists of a group and individual assignment for each course.
You will have a tutor for each course and will have contact online and via email, telephone or webcam. Due to its online nature you will experience a high level of tutor contact and interaction during this programme.
