Research profile

Edinburgh is one of only four British universities which offer advanced postgraduate supervision in classical Indian languages (Sanskrit, Prakrit and Pali), literatures and religions.

The Sanskrit section offers supervision at both MPhil and PhD level in Sanskrit, Prakrit and Pali language and literature as well as classical Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.

In the most recent UK-wide Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) Asian Studies was awarded a 5.

The Sanskrit section is affiliated to the Centre for South Asian Studies.

Training and support

The MPhil and PhD degrees are taught by supervision only. Students are encouraged to attend any relevant undergraduate course.
