Medicine and Veterinary Medicine
The College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine is the leading research centre in the UK for research in both clinical medicine and clinical veterinary medicine.
The College is one of the oldest centres for medical and veterinary medical research in the UK, and yet is one of the most dynamic and progressive.
We offer an extensive range of postgraduate programmes, from on-campus Masters and research degrees, to flexible online distance learning programmes.
Interdisciplinary research is at the heart of the College's philosophy.
Our research students benefit from our 'lab bench to bedside' approach, where research is conducted in the same location in which patients are seen, strengthening collaboration between basic and clinician scientists.
Our researchers fully embrace the College's 'one medicine' ethos, which translates research into patient benefit for both humans and animals.
Facilities
The College boasts a number of state-of-the-art facilities, including:
- a new Medical School, adjacent to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary
- the Queen's Medical Research Institute, which houses three world class research centres and over 600 researchers
- the Institute of Genetics & Molecular Medicine, with around 500 medical researchers
- Edinburgh Neuroscience, one of the largest neuroscience groupings in the world
- recently refurbished pre-clinical research centres on the central campus
- the Roslin Institute, which will move to a new building on a new, shared campus with the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, in spring 2011
- state-of the-art imaging technologies
- a new Centre for Regenerative Medicine building, to be opened in 2011
- Edinburgh BioQuarter, a major medical research commercialisation initiative, currently under construction on the Little France campus.

Our interdisciplinary centres and institutes bring together academic staff in broad, thematic research concentrations encompassing basic sciences, translational and clinical research.

Funding and scholarships
Our academic teaching staff generate over £30 million a year to fund research. These sources fund most postgraduate research studentships.
The College also provides research studentships each year from our endowment funds.
