Undergraduate entry requirements for applicants from Singapore.

Singapore GCE O Levels

The Singapore-Cambridge GCE O level is acceptable at grades A1 - C6 in lieu of GCSE grades A, B and C on a subject for subject basis, including English.

Singapore GCE A Levels

With the exception of Medicine/Vet Medicine, entry requirements for Singapore GCE candidates are three A Levels at specific grades.

Applicants with 2 H2’s and 2H1’s at the same sitting will be considered for all degree programmes within the Colleges of Arts, Humanities and Social Science and the College of Science and Engineering.

Singapore GCE A Levels equate directly to the GCE A Levels referred to in the prospectus so please refer to individual degree programmes for subject and grade requirements.

  • H2 = A Level
  • H1 = AS Level

For the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Science, the minimum requirements are ABB in three H2s (H2 Knowledge & Inquiry is accepted); or Grades AB in two H2s and grades BB two H1s, to include a contrasting subject (excludes H1 General paper and H1 Project Work).

Veterinary Medicine

Use our degree finder to get more information on a particular degree, including minimum academic entry requirements.

Medicine

Singapore Polytechnic Diplomas

If you have completed a diploma from one of the polytechnics in Singapore, you may be considered for admission. The appropriate point of entry will be determined by the match of subjects and by your performance.

College of Science and Engineering

Advanced entry to year 3 of a 4 year degree is possible for some degrees in the College of Science and Engineering. Normally you would need to obtain a grade average (CGPA 3.6) or better in a relevant Polytechnic Diploma in order to be considered.

If you are unsure whether your particular diploma is accepted, please contact Edinburgh Global or the admissions staff for the degree to which you wish to apply.

College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

Within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences there is currently a 2+2 advanced entry agreement with Republic Polytechnic for Sport but all other completed polytechnic diplomas will be considered for entry into year one only.

College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine

If you have completed a diploma from one of the polytechnics in Singapore in a subject such as Veterinary Bioscience, Veterinary Technology, Veterinary Microbiology or Biomedical Science you will be considered for admission to the 5-year BVM&S programme with a B+ average (CGPA 3.4) or better.

If you have completed a Diploma in Biomedical Engineering you may be considered for Year 1 entry to one of our Biomedical Sciences programmes. If you have completed a Diploma in Biomedical Sciences as well as consideration to Year 1 to one of our Biomedical Sciences programmes you may also be considered for advanced entry to Years 2 or 3 depending on your final GPA.

Applicants from Singapore applying with US qualifications will be required to reach the same levels as American applicants.

Completion of NUS High School Diploma with CAP of 4.0, and GPA of 4.0 in required subjects (as listed in the degree finder) in year 6.  If A at A Level is required, a Year 6 Subject GPA of 4.2 is required, and if A* at A Level is required, a Year 6 Subject GPA of 4.5 is required.

Please note that Secondary 4/Year 4 results will be accepted in meeting GCSE equivalent requirements at grades A (Grade Point 4.5) B (Grade Point 3.5) and C (Grade Point 2.0)

For programmes in the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine (Biomedical and Medical Sciences only) we require a GPA of 4.0 and 4.2 in Biology and Chemistry (either way around) in year 6, Mathematics and/or Physics are also recommended.

Applicants undertaking mandatory military service

We understand that applicants from Singapore are required to complete mandatory military service. If you began your military service immediately after completing school, the three-and-a-half-year expiry period for your English language qualification will apply from the point you finished school, providing that you were taught and assessed in English. This extension does not apply if you are using IELTS, TOEFL, and Trinity ISE to meet English language requirements.

For mathematics and informatics degrees, if you are required to undertake mandatory military service, the mathematics qualification you will use for entry can be achieved within the previous three academic years before your date of entry.
