The part-time Access course can lead to degree study at the University of Edinburgh and many other universities in the UK.
Who is the part-time Access course for?
The course could be for you if you:
- have had a break of three years from formal full time education
- are confident that you are able to demonstrate your readiness to undertake a demanding course to prepare you for degree level study
- would benefit from a structured programme of study skills and intensive practice in academic writing
Where does it lead?

In addition to the Universtiy of Edinburgh, a number of other universities in the UK recognise the part-time Access Course for entry to their degree courses.
Where does it take place?
The course is run jointly by the University of Edinburgh and Edinburgh College.
The teaching is based in the central campus of the University of Edinburgh
What is the attendance pattern?
There are three ways to attend:
- day time for one year (two half days per week) on Wednesday and Thursday
- evenings for one year (two evenings per week) on Wednesday and Thursday
- it may also be possible to complete the course over 2 years
The course runs from September to June.
Fees
The fee for studying the course in one year is estimated at £470.
Applicants in receipt of benefits may be entitled to a fee waiver.
There may also be some assistance with the cost of books, travel, and childcare.
