From 25 November 2008, full-time international non-European Economic Area (INEEA) students seeking visa extensions are required to obtain ID cards as a precondition of the visa extension being issued. EEA countries are listed in Appendix 1 of the draft procedures which are available on this website.
This means students must provide biometric data (fingerprints and retina scans), which will require a visit to Glasgow or further afield. ID cards are currently taking 6-10 weeks to obtain.

The UK government will introduce further changes in relation to visas for International Students over the coming months. The timescales are outlined below.
International students seeking to extend their visa and all applicants with an unconditional offer from the University will need a letter of support from the University which they will then use in making their visa application. Visa applications are taking much longer to process this year because of the new system so students and applicants should act quickly. Students seeking an extension should consult the list of contacts for extending students on this website to find their relevant contact.
From February 2010, the system will apply to all new INEEA students and the University will also have to report students who fail to enrol on a course, who fail to attend a course and who discontinue their studies.
A working group with EUSA and college representation is developing the University's response to this issue.
The University is seeking to have 'attendance on a course' defined as meaning the attendance requirements that apply to all students, such as essays and exams.
