Need a drivers permit for our vehicles?
Find out how to get one.Drivers wishing to hire a minibus from Sport & Exercise must hold a valid Sports Transport Minibus Driver's permit.
Obtaining a permit is very straightforward. Just follow these four steps:
There is no longer a requirement to undertake a vision screening test via the Occupational Health Unit prior to authorisation to drive a University minibus.
However, all minibus drivers must undertake an eye sight test at an optician at least once every two years. These tests are currently free in Scotland. It is recommended that you inform the optician that you will be driving minibuses.
Apply by email to Duncan Veitch to arrange a date and time for your test.
When your test details are confirmed, you should meet at the Sport & Exercise Reception at 46 Pleasance.
It is essential that you bring the following documentation on the day of your test:
The test will not proceed if you fail to bring all of these documents.
The candidate can request a convenient venue to finish the test.
The test will last for 45 minutes. You are encouraged to be familiar with the Highway Code, especially the points relevant to minibuses.
The examiner will also introduce basic engine checks and a brief introduction of the procedure for the receiving and returning of hired minibuses.
All bookings are administered at Sport & Exercise through the completion of an official booking form.
On completion of the test you will be issued with a permit which is valid for the remainder of the academic year.
Having successfully completed your driving test your license is provisional until you complete a Defensive Driving course within six weeks of sitting your test.
The course is classroom based and will last for approximately 2 hours. There is an additional cost of £30.00 for staff and students unless they are members of a Sports Union Club. Sports Union Club drivers will have this expense paid for by the Sports Union.
Drivers wishing to renew their permits for subsequent academic years should fill out a Permit Holder Renewal Details Form and return this via email to Duncan Veitch.
