At University of Edinburgh Sport, we are committed to being open to everybody.

University of Edinburgh Sport Is Open to Everybody

Sport and physical activity have so much to offer people of all backgrounds whilst at University and beyond. That includes the lesbian, gay, bi and trans (LGBT) Community. At all levels of sport, you’ll  find people who are out and open about their sexual orientation and gender identity. These individuals feel welcome, supported and at home in their team or club and never feel held back from taking part and winning. This is often down to the hard work of coaches, teammates, sports officials, organisers and leaders at different levels in sport across the UK and beyond.

As one of the UK’s leading sporting Universities, it is our responsibility to actively offer everyone the opportunity to participate in sport and physical activity. That is why we will be participating in Stonewall Scotland’s Rainbow Laces campaign, which supports LGBT people in sports, this Wednesday, 15th March. During the Burgh Varsity versus Heriot Watt University, we will be encouraging club members and staff to wear rainbow laces and will be promoting the campaign through our social media and other channels to help raise awareness of the issues faced by the LGBT community.

Together we can “Make Sport Everyone’s Game.”
